Multiple stream processing feature limits
Recent changes to the LogDepot Video backend makes the recording of multiple video channels significantly easier and more affordable. The latest version even supports recording from more than one transport stream delivered by UDP. Feeding media into the LogDepot system usually involves one or more video transcoding processes per stream, to create the low bitrate browsing format for example. But video transcoding is expensive, in terms of system resources. The latest very fast quadcore and hexacore processors open up new possibilities. For example: A mainstream server around a popular single quad core CPU (e.g. Intel Xeon X3470) has the processing power to enable up to four channels. A high end system around two hexacore processors (e.g. Intel X5690) actually offers so much computer power that we run into process limitations of the operation system before reaching maximum channel capacity.
