Central Configuration and Management System

CCMS is the Central Configuration and Management System, an application to control and monitor Arbor Media products. The web-based interface allows the administrator to monitor from remote locations.

The Arbor Media products are designed to run continuously, 24x7. If a problem occurs, damage can be minimized if the responsible person is informed adequately and immediately. This can prevent frustration by users and loss of precious material. The CCMS module helps identifying problems and/or bottlenecks, as soon as they occur, preventing bigger problems.

Each of the (CCMS enabled) Arbor Media modules communicates with the special monitoring service within the CCMS system, using a built-in “heart-beat” mechanism. This enables CCMS to identify a crash, hangup or network problem, because the communication will stop in that case. If this happens the CCMS system will generate an alert.

However, modules can also proactively report problems they encounter. These can be inside technical problems (out of resources, hard disk full) or external problems, such as signal loss or distortion. The system may generate Error Messages, Warnings or Notifications.

Actions
It is fully configurable, how the system reacts on incoming Alert messages: Each Alert can linked to an alarm action.
The system supports various alarms:
  • Send an email
  • Set SNMP trap
  • Pop up a window
  • Generate network message
  • Execute a program
The possibility to trigger actions such as throwing a SNMP trap, allow the CCMS system to be integrated into larger (station-wide) network monitoring systems. The “execute program” action leaves practically every unforeseen possibility open.
